Candlestick Psychology
Every candle is the footprint of a battle between buyers and sellers. Read the battle, not just the shape.
The battle behind every candle
Behind the geometry of a candle is human behaviour: fear, greed, conviction and doubt, expressed as buying and selling. Learning to read candles is really learning to read that behaviour.
Walk through the phases of a single period as a contest:
- The open sets the starting line — the price both sides inherited from the last period.
- The intraday battle is buyers pushing up and sellers pushing down. Every tick is a small victory for one side.
- Rejection is when one side pushes price to a level and the other side forcefully rejects it — this is what creates wicks.
- Acceptance is when price moves to a level and stays there — the market agreeing that the new price is fair.
- The close is the verdict — where the battle stood when the whistle blew.
This is why the close and the wicks matter so much. The close is the verdict; the wicks are the failed offensives. A candle with a small body and long wicks on both sides is a story of a fierce, indecisive battle where neither side could hold ground — genuinely different information from a long clean body, even if a beginner sees "just a candle."
A candle is frozen human behaviour — open, battle, rejection, acceptance, verdict. Read the story, not the silhouette.
